Villa Rica Ga is situated due west of Atlanta about a 35-45 minute drive down Interstate 20.
Many of the residents commute toward Atlanta and Douglasville or into Carrollton. Villa Rica has a small town feel with the old commercial buildings lining the Main Street with busy rail line going from Birmingham to Atlanta. Many businesses are doing including the many restaurants that keep their patrons coming back for the good food and service. More commercial and newer development has been built along the Highway 61 corridor south toward 1-20 with larger chain stores like Wal-Mart and Home Depot.
The Villa Rica lifestyle is one of quiet and peaceful nature you would find in any small southern town. Many with school children take part in the local school activities and team sports with the Villa Rica High School. There have been several subdivisions being developed in the last 10 years that have produced swim and tennis enthusiasts.
In 1820, gold was discovered in Villa Rica and the town soon became much like a wild west town town. The gold rush lasted till about 1860 when most of the finds were depleted. In 1829 many of the miners moved to Dahlonega Ga to take part of a bigger gold rush. Villa Rica still claims to be Georgia's First Gold Rush.
